Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Made it to Arizona

01 Speed limit signs on I10W TX (1024x609)

Trust me, if I could drive that fast to get out of Texas I would. But instead I go 60-65mph.

02 Welcome to New Mexico sign I10W (1024x625)

Yippee!

03 I10W New Mexico (1024x702)

It’s prettier already.

04 AZ state line signs I10W (1024x569)

The 358-mile drive seemed very long, hot and windy, but I crossed the border.

05 KOA Benson AZ (1024x766)

And made it all the way to Benson. Home tomorrow and praying for a tail wind.

06 Sunset KOA Benson AZ (1024x634)

My brain is still on Texas time as I write this. Maybe I’ll be better in the morning.

SWF – A venue for kettling

01 Turkey vultures kettling over carrion SH90W TX

Turkey vultures are masters at soaring flight. Along a lonely western Texas highway I saw a venue of turkey vultures kettling over some road kill. Their keen sense of smell draws them in to the carrion.

02 Feathery clouds over SH90W TX

Further down the road a whole other look at feathers in the sky.

SWF long badge

To view more skies from around the world, or to share your own, go to Sky Watch Friday by clicking here. Thanks meme team.

A group of vultures is called a venue and the circling in the sky is kettling.

02 Hidden Valley RV Park Del Rio TX (1024x768)

…while I strolled around the Hidden Valley RV Park in Del Rio, Texas taking photos.

03 Bridges SH90 W TX (1024x768)

If it seems like a reverse of the trip south almost two months ago, it is.

04 Inspection Station SH90 W TX (1024x676)

Back through the inspection stations.

06 Pecos River crossing SH90W TX (1024x768)

Across the Pecos River.

07 Windmill SH90W TX (1024x768)

Past vast landscapes, ranches from the past and present.

08 SH90W approaching Marathon TX (1024x768)

Then finally the hills of northwest Texas…

09 Evidence of fire along SH90W east of Alpine TX (1024x753)

…and evidence of recent fire just outside Alpine.

10 Train along SH90W TX (1024x723)

Today’s long journey took me 312 miles to Van Horn, Texas. Hoping to cross the Arizona border tomorrow.

11 Sunset from KOA Van Horn TX pano (1024x625)

On my way Home

01 Not much left San Benito TX

Nothing much left at Mom’s house except the mess, which someone else gets to clean up. The sale was Very successful. Most of the furniture sold on Friday and we dollared them to death on Saturday. There wasn’t enough left to open on Sunday so Auntie Kay and I went to breakfast.

02 U-Haul & truck camper San Benito TX

Monday morning, after an oil change for the truck, I picked up the 6x12’ U-Haul trailer. Then with much help loaded what I’m taking to Arizona, some to Mom and some for me.

03 Fancy ranch gate along SH44 W TX (1024x768)

Tuesday morning I hit the road north through some pretty desolate oil and ranch country. Sure are a lot of fancy gates into these vast landscapes.

04 Sunset Hidden Valley RV Park Del Rio TX

Made it 375 miles to a Del Rio, Texas RV Park. Hoping to get to Van Horn today. Takes SO long to get out of Texas.
