Description

I own no land, instead I have wheelestate. I’ve been a full time RVer since 1997. Working summers as a Park Ranger takes me to many beautiful places and playing during the winter takes me to many more. This blog is simply the story of my life's adventures.

Scenic Sunday - Weaver Mountain walk

Road into Weaver Mts
Finally got myself out of the house and motivated to walk on the first day of 2010.

Kissing rocks
About a mile from where I live in the boulders there is a gated access road into a someday housing development on the eastern flanks of the Weaver Mountains.

View east towards town
After climbing over the gate I can follow several miles of semi-graded dirt roads or take off across the landscape on animal trails.

I heard more birds than I saw, scared up a rabbit, spotted a few lizards scurrying into cracks in the rocks and saw the tracks and scat of coyote, deer, javelina, cattle, and maybe a bobcat.

Yes, a pond in the desert
I really do need to get outside more often and walk in nature. I don’t make New Year’s resolutions, yet it does seem like a good time to make some changes. Karen at FabGrandma’s got me to thinking about goals for this year.

1 egg, 2 eggs, 3 eggs, 4

The turtle doves are being wonderful parents, taking turns on the nest although they often seem reluctant to leave the precious eggs to the other. I read that the female typically sits during the day and the male takes over during the night with a quick, possibly unnoticeable, switch. It’s very difficult to tell them apart although the male is supposed to have iridescent feathers on their necks. Guess I’ll have to take a closer look.

Typically doves lay only two eggs, yet Don and Angie are sitting on 4 eggs. I hope these young first-time parents can handle quadruplets if they all make it. Incubation takes from 13-19 days so we may see the first hatch about the middle of next week.

SWF - Greeting a new day and year

12-29-09
Seems like I’m getting up earlier lately and was gifted with gorgeous sunrises two mornings in a row.

12-30-09
If I get in my truck camper and stand on the bed looking out from the emergency hatch I get a great view of the morning light.

As we move into 2010 I once again wish for peace and understanding amongst all people, happily living in harmony with the land. Happy New Year to all of you, may your heart’s desires come true in the following year and beyond.

My phone line was cut, maybe by the javelina, the other night so I haven’t been to many blogs lately. Hopefully this will be fixed before next year and I can try to catch up. Please know you are all in my thoughts.

Javelina

Taken 12-8-09If you want flowering plants or a garden around here your fence better be javelina proof. Javelina are not pigs but are related to...

MWT - Creating a fence

After a very frosty Sunday morning with frozen hose to my RV the afternoon sun warmed enough to work outside.

Mike dug post holes for fence behind the little house to create an enclosure for plants and an exclosure to the javelina and deer.

The posts are some wood Berta and I got for free at a yard sale and the rest, so far, is trimmings off oak on the property.

I held while Mike lashed the pieces on. I love the curves of the wood, and the shadows.

Mike makes awesome wood furniture with two of his brothers and I will post some of that soon.

Scenic Sunday - Dreaming of summer

When the water line is frozen like this morning, I don’t have or need an outside thermometer to tell me it’s cold. So I’m dreaming of a warmer summer morning overlooking Grand Canyon.
